Michael Guerrero to Moderate Discussion on CFPB's Interpretive Rule and BNPL Regulatory Challenges at the American Bar Association's Winter Meeting

Los Angeles-based partner Michael Guerrero will moderate a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program in Denver, Colorado, on January 24, 2025. Guerrero will facilitate the panel, titled "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow: The CFPB's Buy Now, Pay Later Interpretive Rule and the Current State of BNPL Regulation," which will focus on the changing regulatory environment for Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) products. It will examine state efforts to regulate these products as installment loans, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) recent interpretive rule that applies credit card protections to BNPL. The panel will discuss ongoing legal challenges to this rule, the potential impacts of a new presidential administration, and how the BNPL industry may adapt to evolving regulations and interest rates.
