Hinshaw Names Four New Members of Management Committee
The national law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce that Richard G. De La Mora, Schuyler B. Kraus, Michael M. Marick, and Maura K. McKelvey have been appointed to the firm's Management Committee. The seven-member Management Committee is Hinshaw's highest governing body. Mr. De La Mora, Mr. Kraus, Mr. Marick and Ms. McKelvey join the other sitting members of the Management Committee: Robert J. Romero, Peter D. Sullivan and Todd M. Young.
Mr. De La Mora focuses his practice in the representation of insurers and managed health care plans. He has a practice emphasis in insurance regulation and routinely represents insurers in matters involving the departments of insurance of the various states. These matters include all aspects of the insurance business, ranging from insurer formation through market conduct examinations involving insurer finances, rating, underwriting and claims handling practices. Mr. De La Mora also maintains an extensive insurance and managed health care-based litigation practice. To that end, he has represented clients in administrative hearings, arbitrations, civil actions, and appeals of disputes involving virtually all aspects of the insurance business. This practice includes class and other representative actions. Mr. De La Mora also has represented insurers and managed health care plans in hundreds of disputes involving both contracted and noncontracted providers of medical services, including hospitals, medical groups and individual physicians.
Mr. Kraus also serves as a member of Hinshaw's Executive Committee and, with Ms. McKelvey, previously co-chaired Hinshaw's Consumer Financial Services Practice Group. He represents mortgage lenders, servicers and investors in state and federal actions alleging mortgage fraud, predatory lending, and violations of state and federal consumer protection statutes. Mr. Kraus regularly appears on behalf of secured creditors in adversary proceedings and objections to claims filed in New York bankruptcy courts. His appellate work continues to shape the law in New York as it concerns defense of claims brought by consumers. Additionally, he regularly counsels clients regarding first party and third party insurance disputes. Mr. Kraus earned his J.D. (1999) from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University and his B.A. (1994) from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Ms. McKelvey has been a member of Hinshaw's Executive Committee for the last four years. She focuses her practice on the representation of mortgage servicers, lenders, and investors in matters alleging predatory lending, mortgage fraud, violation of consumer protection statutes, and challenges to mortgage holders' right to foreclose. Ms. McKelvey also represents lenders, servicers and their agents and vendors in claims arising out of contested foreclosures and evictions throughout New England. Her practice further includes assisting clients in a wide range of title and lien disputes to find creative and cost effective resolutions to these matters. Ms. McKelvey earned her J.D. (1995) from Boston College Law School and her B.A. (1992), with distinction, from the University of Michigan.
Mr. Marick is a member of Hinshaw's Executive Committee and represents property and casualty insurers in high-exposure coverage disputes across the country. He has served as national coverage counsel and lead counsel for insurers in significant mass tort coverage litigation (asbestos, silica, breast implants, pharmaceutical products, medical devices), environmental coverage suits, disputes between excess and primary insurers, policy rescission actions, high-stakes disputes over the insurer's right to appoint defense counsel, and managed care professional liability claims. Mr. Marick also has been retained as a consulting/testifying expert witness on insurance issues, had his published works cited by courts as persuasive authority, and for many years taught insurance law at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. He is ranked in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, in 2015 was named Chicago Insurance Law "Lawyer of the Year" by The Best Lawyers in America, and is a Regent of the American College of Coverage and Extracontractual Counsel. Mr. Marick also serves as a National Director of the Defense Research Institute. He earned his J.D (1982), with honors, from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law and his B.A. (1979) from Denison University.
