Cathy Mulrow-Peattie Stresses the Need for a Federal Privacy Law in Law360 Mid-Year Report

August 7, 2024

Cathy Mulrow-Peattie was featured in a Law360 "Privacy & Cybersecurity Midyear Report," which covers significant developments in privacy, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence laws during the first half of 2024 and legal updates anticipated for the remainder of the year.

Although several states have made significant strides in addressing data privacy concerns this year, Congress continues to struggle to agree upon unified federal privacy legislation.

She stressed, "The absence of federal law is leading states to say that, while they have consumer protection laws in place, they need to do something to specifically address these privacy issues." Mulrow-Peattie has repeatedly discussed in prior Hinshaw alerts that the growing patchwork of state privacy regulations is causing conflicting compliance challenges for organizations.

Mulrow-Peattie and Hinshaw's Privacy, Security, & Artificial Intelligence team also regularly publish these detailed alerts on the latest state regulations and important privacy law developments. You can read our alerts and subscribe to receive these timely updates in your inbox.
