Hinshaw's Gretchen Harris Sperry Assumes Presidency of the Appellate Lawyers Association, Discusses Importance of Upholding the Rule of Law
Hinshaw partner Gretchen Harris Sperry was recently sworn in as the President of the Appellate Lawyers Association (ALA). The ALA is a statewide organization created for lawyers who regularly practice in the federal and state courts of review and the judges who serve on them.
Sperry's appointment was profiled by Dave Thomas of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin in an article titled "Hinshaw partner steps up as ALA president." In the story, Sperry said her plans for future ALA events programming will focus on lawyers who are using the law to "move and effect change, or in support of the rule of law." She identified Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Lloyd A. Karmeier and former acting U.S. solicitor general Neal Katyal as two guiding lights in advocating for the lawyer's role in upholding the rule of law.
Sperry is an active member of the ALA. Before assuming her role of President, Sperry served as the ALA's Vice President (2018 – 2019). She has also served as Secretary (2017 – 2018) and Treasurer (2016 – 2017) and was a member of the Board of Directors (2013 – 2015). In addition, Sperry is the Co-Chair of the Cases Pending Committee and a member of the Seminars Committee.
