Hinshaw Partner Wendy Chang Appointed by Governor Brown to Serve as Superior Court Judge in Los Angeles County
The national law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce that Wendy W.Y. Chang, a partner in the firm's Los Angeles office, has been appointed by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. to serve as a Superior Court Judge in Los Angeles County.
Wendy Chang was among 21 appointees selected to serve in trial courts across California, and one of ten selected for Los Angeles County. She fills the vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Frank J. Johnson.
Chang first joined Hinshaw as an associate in 2004 and became a partner in 2008. She is a leading voice in professional ethics law, having served as an advisor to the State Bar of California's Commission for the Revision of the Rules of Professional Conduct and also chaired the State Bar of California's Standing Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct. She currently serves on the American Bar Association's Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility.
"Wendy has been a wonderful colleague and a huge asset to our firm and to the bar," said partner Tom McGarry, a leader in the firm's Lawyers for the Profession® practice group. "An extremely influential voice in the development of the positive values of our legal profession, she has also contributed tremendously to the success of our annual Legal Malpractice & Risk Management Conference. We congratulate her on this appointment, and have no doubt she will be a success in her new role administering justice from the bench."
"Wendy is a skilled advocate and perfect example of how an attorney should use their platform to make a difference in the community," added DL Morriss, the firm's Diversity & Inclusion Partner. "She has also been a powerful voice at Hinshaw promoting opportunities for women lawyers and other members of the firm's affinity groups. Currently serving on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL), Wendy is also the co-chair of our Asian Pacific American Affinity Network. We will miss Wendy—she was always accessible and engaged in advancing our firmwide diversity initiatives—but we are also very proud of her as she prepares to assume the role of Superior Court judge."
Chang is a graduate of Loyola Law School (J.D.) and the University of California at Los Angeles (B.A.). She is admitted to practice in California.
