Ian Wagreich Discusses Impact of New Canadian H-1B Policy
Hinshaw partner Ian Wagreich recently discussed in Law360 a new Canadian policy that will allow U.S. H-1B visa holders to live and work anywhere in Canada.
Wagreich noted that the Canadian initiative seizes on significant weaknesses of the U.S. employment-based immigration system. He anticipated that the Canadian program could also appeal to H-1B visa holders who have grown weary dealing with the constant uncertainty about becoming a lawful permanent U.S. resident.
He added that he often advises clients these days on how to send workers to other countries, as well as how they can employ people without sending them to the United States. "I used to never spend any time saying, 'Hey, here's how your workers can work for you while they're outside of the [United States].' So these are U.S. companies that are employing highly skilled people, except they're not bringing them to the [United States]," he said.
