Hinshaw Opens DC office, Adds Consumer Financial Services Partner
John Nader brings extensive financial services and construction litigation experience
Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP today announced the arrival of John Nader as a partner in the Consumer Financial Services Practice Group and the opening of an office in the nation’s capital. Formerly with McGlinchey Stafford, Nader has extensive litigation experience representing mortgage servicers and consumer lending companies—along with construction-related litigation experience representing contractors, developers and owners—in federal and state courts.
"We are excited to expand into the DC market as part of the firm’s strategic growth," said Peter Sullivan, firm chairman. "With boots on the ground, we can better serve our clients’ legal needs related to regulatory and compliance matters, as well grow the firm’s litigation capabilities in a key market. This is an exciting development for the firm’s government and regulatory practices."
Nader brings a mix of in-house experience and private law practice, adding depth to the firm’s litigation capabilities.
"John is a highly skilled litigator and well established in the D.C. metro area and surrounding region," said Justin Penn, leader of the firm’s Consumer Financial Services Practice Group. "We share a number of clients and John has worked closely with many of the attorneys in our financial services practice."
Nader represents financial institutions, mortgage companies and servicers in arbitrations and disputes and class action defense in state, federal and bankruptcy courts. In addition, he counsels clients on regulatory compliance matters related to various state and federal consumer protection laws, including the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Dodd-Frank Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act and Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. He also has significant construction litigation experience, previously serving as chief legal counsel for an SBA 8(a) general contractor. Nader represents contractors, developers and owners in disputes related to embassy contracts, government construction and retail development.
Hinshaw’s geographic footprint and the firm’s leading capabilities in the financial services regulatory and compliance area were among the reasons Nader decided to join the firm.
"I’m excited to join the Hinshaw team and reunite with my former colleagues Brian McGrath and Eric Simonson," Nader said. "Hinshaw’s platform will be a great benefit to my clients, and my capabilities and experience readily complement the firm’s already deep bench in financial services litigation."
Nader began his law practice in 2007 at Katz & Stone in Vienna, Va., before joining Asmar, Schorr & McKenna in D.C. in 2011. He later served as general legal counsel at Persaud Companies, Inc., in Ashburn, VA, an SBA 8(a) general contractor specializing in government construction. He returned to private practice at Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young before joining McGlinchey in 2017.
He received his B.A. in philosophy from the University of Virginia and his J.D. from The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law. He is admitted to practice in the local and federal courts within the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.
Hinshaw’s new office is located at 700 12th Street, NW, Suite 700, Washington, D.C. This is Hinshaw’s 23rd U.S. office location.
