Robert Shannon Discusses Cook County Jail COVID-19 Lawsuit on Chicago Tonight
Last week, Hinshaw's Robert Shannon appeared on WTTW/Chicago PBS to discuss the firm's representation of the Cook County Sheriff's Office in litigation over COVID-19 conditions at the Cook County Jail facility. The CDC recently issued a report which noted how “aggressive intervention strategies” implemented by Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart have dramatically reduced the number of COVID-19 infections in the facility.
Shannon, James Lydon, Gretchen Harris Sperry, Adam Vaught and Lari Dierks are representing the Sheriff in a class action complaint brought by the MacArthur Justice Center of Northwestern Law School, Loevy & Loevy, and the Civil Rights Corps. The complaint sought injunctive relief, among other remedies. After a limited TRO and then preliminary injunction was granted by the District Court, the Hinshaw team secured a win at the 7th Circuit, with the Court finding the Sheriff was likely to succeed on appeal and granting his motion to stay enforcement of the preliminary injunction and discovery related to the social distancing aspects of the preliminary injunction.
