Mike Adams represents clients around the country in a variety of commercial matters, including contract disputes, business torts, trade secrets disputes, and statutory claims. Mike represents clients in a variety of sectors, including manufacturing, in the prosecution or defense of claims arising under Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code. He also represents clients in an array of other contract disputes, including the pursuit of injunctive relief and other special remedies. Mike pursues and defends claims for fraud, breach of warranty, tortious interference, defamation, and commercial disparagement, among others.

In addition to his general commercial practice, Mike regularly represents clients in disputes arising from health benefit programs and employee benefit plans (ERISA and non-ERISA). He represents insurers, third-party administrators, and associations in disputes with medical providers, members, and plan sponsors. Mike also represents clients in the construction industry in disputes involving construction defects, professional liability, and mechanic's liens. Mike handles jury trials, bench trials, evidentiary hearings, and arbitrations.

Prior to joining Hinshaw, Mike practiced at a firm in the Chicagoland area, where he worked on a wide range of commercial matters, construction disputes, and claims for product liability.

During law school, Mike was an active member of the Business and Commercial Law Journal and a member of the Appellate Moot Court Society. As a participant in the Honorable William J. Bauer Moot Court Competition, Mike was awarded Best Overall Oralist.

Representative Matters

  • Represents a publicly-traded multinational managed healthcare and insurance company in disputes around the country with medical providers, members, and plan sponsors.
  • Secured dismissal of claims for defamation, commercial disparagement, tortious interference, and violation of the Illinois Consumer Fraud Act on behalf of an association of dental insurance companies. The dismissal was affirmed on appeal.
  • Obtained a preliminary injunction requiring a publicly-traded railroad company to collect fares for a transit agency in a suit over the company's alleged failure to do so during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Secured a preliminary injunction in favor of a landowner in a title dispute involving a platted private roadway. Later obtained an order awarding fee simple title to the disputed property.
  • Defended a subsidiary of a publicly-traded company that provided construction management services to a large hospital system in a high-stakes breach of contract suit involving an alleged construction defect in hospital towers.
  • Represents a minority shareholder in a closely-held corporation in a derivative suit pursuing claims for breach of fiduciary duty and oppression under the Illinois Business Corporation Act of 1983.
  • Represented a manufacturer in a breach of contract suit against an automation company after a piece of custom machinery designed to eliminate a bottleneck in the manufacturer's assembly line failed to meet the contract specifications.
