Fernando Silva represents employers in state and federal courts and before agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR), Illinois Human Rights Commission, and the U.S. Department of Labor(DOL) in claims related to unlawful discrimination, harassment, retaliation, failure to accommodate, unequal pay, and similar issues. He has represented clients pro bono in immigration proceedings.
Prior to joining Hinshaw, Fernando clerked at a Chicago plaintiff’s firm, where he handled cases involving toxic tort litigation, products liability, and premises liability. As a student attorney, he also represented families and children involved in child neglect and abuse cases.
Before pursuing a career in law, Fernando served in the United States Navy as a gas turbine technician, monitoring the ship’s propulsion plant on deployments patrolling the Korean Peninsula. He was recognized for his actions during a disaster relief operation and was awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal.
