Reka Bala concentrates her practice on insurance coverage litigation and counseling. She handles a wide range of coverage matters, including bad faith, extra-contractual liability, general liability, directors and officers, employment practices, product liability, and additional insured claims in construction defect disputes.
During her tenure at two regional law firms in New Jersey, Reka handled complex civil litigation matters in state and federal court in New York and New Jersey, ranging from coverage disputes to insurance defense and medical malpractice matters.
Before joining Hinshaw, Reka gained invaluable experience as a claims adjuster for an international insurance carrier—focusing on life sciences claims against pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, and drug manufacturers—which deepened her understanding of the challenges and pressures facing many of her insurance clients. Upon finishing law school, she was a law clerk to the Honorable Carmen Messano, Presiding Judge of the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Reka spent six years as a journalist, reporting and writing for various New York and New Jersey newspapers on local municipal, government, and crime matters.
