Jack Shadid is an experienced attorney focused on bankruptcy and title insurance law. He represents a variety of creditors, including real estate development consultants, construction companies, and financial institutions, in complex bankruptcy proceedings such as Rule 2004 examinations, contested Chapter 11 disputes, plan confirmation issues, and emergency post-confirmation hearings. Jack also advises mortgage lenders in quiet title disputes related to mortgage foreclosures and title insurance claims. His combined knowledge of real estate and bankruptcy law allows him to effectively advise clients experiencing complex and uncertain circumstances.
Jack has experience litigating in federal court, including representing a federal prisoner in a civil rights case against the Bureau of Prisons, alleging the cruel and unusual withholding of medical care by its for-profit healthcare administration and insurance contractors. Jack’s civil rights advocacy, in this case, leverages his familiarity with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and state insurance codes, as well as his experience litigating complex healthcare payor-provider disputes.
Jack began his legal career as an advisor to the Illinois Senate President’s Office, where he drafted and negotiated legislation amending the Illinois Insurance Code and the Illinois Pension Code and advised lawmakers on policy issues concerning health care and employee benefit plan administration, complex insurance business transfer and corporate division mechanisms, insurance guaranty fund risk-based capital considerations, and public use concerns related to private real estate development. His regulatory insight and legislative advisory experience on insurance and pension issues enhance his ability to help clients resolve legal conflicts efficiently.
